1100 kilometres. Is this a lot? It is definitely more than any distance within modern Spain or France and almost as long as the length of Ukraine from west to east. There were 1100 kilometres that the Chernihiv principality stretched over a thousand years ago. From the Kerch Strait in the south to the marshes of the Moscow region in the north. There was no Moscow itself, no city, no settlement, no evidence of human life. The principality’s history has many gaps. Its main characters did not leave us any videos, and we have few documents to rely on. But we do have data from hundreds of scientific studies, clues in architecture, ancient temples and caves, and finally, artificial intelligence, which will help us at least imagine what it was like 1000 years ago. We are going to try to understand the history of the Chernihiv principality.

Director Biography – Andriy Titok
The film’s author and director was born in 1990 in Chernihiv, Ukraine. In media since 2012: as a correspondent, news producer, editorial director of the Suspilne Ukraine’s Chernihiv regional branch. Author of more than fifty interviews with famous people of the region. He’s been involved in documentaries since 2022. Awarded with the Order of Merit, 3rd degree, by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky (2022). In 2023 received the award the “Honor of the Profession” (one of the most prestigious Ukrainian award for journalists). In 2024 he won the Ivan Franko Prize.
